Qualcomm is facing a fine of $900 million from South Korea's Fair Trade Commission due to its allegedly unfair market practices. The government has been investigating Qualcomm for 17 months and it claims Qualcomm abused its market position by charging phone makers excessively large amounts for licensing.

Each year, the company receives around $1.27 billion in royalty fees from South Korea, a market that accounts for 16% of its overall revenue.
It appears the investigation has already left the FTC convinced about Qualcomm's unfair practices and we now just have to wait for a final judgement that'll come later this year. If the fine ends up being $900 million, it'll be the largest ever dealt out by the FTC.
A similar investigation in China led to the company being fined $975 million last year. |
