China-based smartphone vendor Oppo reportedly has raised its shipment target for 2016 to 100 million units, from the revised 80 million set in June, according to a Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) report.

Strong sales of its Oppo R9 devices, launched in April 2016, prompted the smartphone vendor to revise again its shipment target, the paper indicated.

Oppo has ramped up shipments of the R9 devices to eight million units a month currently and could ship as many as 18-20 million units of the R9 models in 2016, said the paper.

Taiwan-based handset component suppliers for Oppo, including MediaTek, Largan Precision, Optivision Technology, Primax Electronics and Zhen Ding Technology Holding, will benefit from increased smartphone shipments from Oppo, the paper stated.

Oppo shipped 50 million smartphones in 2015, accounting for the eighth largest smartphone vendor globally with a 3.8% share.
