Intel is gearing up to launch the Kaby Lake CPUs later this year. The new CPUs, which are Skylake's successor, are expected to launch by the end of the year and will bring several new features and better power efficiency due to more optimized 14nm manufacturing process.
While there will be performance improvements, the biggest jump should happen with its successor, the Coffee Lake. According to a report by PC World, Intel is struggling with the 10nm Cannon Lake that is allegedly delayed for late 2017, and plans to launch another 14 nm series to follow Kaby Lake in 2018.
Called Coffee Lake, the new architecture could bring 6-core processors to mainstream notebooks. The series will focus on mainstream notebooks with U-class (15W - 28W TDP) SKUs and HQ-class (35W - 45W TDP) SKUs. Not only there will be 6-core CPUs for high-end laptops, but Intel will bring quad-core options in the 15W - 28W TDP range.
The lineup will coexist with the Cannon Lake, which should cover the U-class (15W TDP) and Y-class (4.5W TDP). |
