Apple is pushing the Supreme Court to provide a ruling in its patent infringement case against Samsung instead of sending it back to a lower court. The patent battle began in 2011 and Samsung was ordered to pay $930 million in 2012. That amount was later reduced to $548 million.
In its latest briefing, Apple argued the Supreme Court should rule in its favor because Samsung hasn't sufficiently argued the damages in the case should be based on a single component instead of the entire phone.
Because of how large the ruling is, Samsung requested the Supreme Court look into the case and it agreed to do so in March 2016. Samsung believes the damages figure is excessive since the infringement only applies to a component while the damages amount covers the full phone.
Last month, the US Department of Justice said the case should be sent back to a lower court. Apple is arguing it should remain at the level of the Supreme Court and that Samsung should pay the full amount.
