Sony's has recently reported $205 million profit in the second quarter of 2016, and surprisingly its mobile division posted $4 million operating profit, meaning the strategy to focus more on premium smartphones and drop the budget phone has paid off.
The company has now confirmed it plans to stick with the plan and stop selling budget phones in more countries. The first country to get only premium Sony smartphones is India and that is now confirmed by the company.
"Sony Mobile drove transformation in FY15 towards a profitable and sustainable company globally including the areas mentioned. As part of our transformation, we are sharpening our focus on select products and sales channels. Considering the recent shift, our marketing strategy will now revolve around offering premium products in the smartphone segment," said company's India head of Xperia business Vijay Singh. |
