Asustek Computer has reported consolidated revenues of NT$33.34 billion (US$1.04 billion) for July, decreasing 21.34% on month and 3.49% on year, and NT$255.94 billion for January-July, inching up 0.43% on year. Of the consolidated revenues, brand-sales revenues were NT$29.96 billion for July, down 23.5% on month and 5.8% on year, and NT$233.95 billion for January-July, up 0.3% on year.
The July revenues declined because the company's ZenFone 3 series smartphones did not begin mass shipments until August. With the company releasing new smartphones and notebooks in the third quarter, Asustek expects its revenues to grow on month in both August and September.
However, Asustek remains conservative about its performance in the second half of 2016 as the global economy has still not yet recovered and the company will take a cautious approach to its third-quarter operation.
Asustek expects its smartphone shipments to reach 25 million units in 2016, up from 2015's 20.5 million units. The company's notebook shipments in the first half reached more than eight million units including 2-in-1 devices, slightly lower than 9.1 million units shipped in the first half of 2015. Asustek expects its notebook shipments to reach 19.3 million units in 2016, flat from a year ago.
As for motherboards, some market watchers expect Asustek's shipments to stay flat from a year ago to reach 17-17.5 million units in 2016, while tablet shipments will drop to only around three million units, down sharply from 6.1 million units in 2015. |
