Android's market share in the smartphone industry was up year-on-year during the second quarter at 86.2%. Gartner's report on the market shows Android had an 82.2% share in 2Q15. Sales of both inexpensive and high-end Android phones have been on the rise, though much of the overall growth can be traced back to emerging markets.
During the quarter, total smartphone shipments increased 4.3% year-on-year to 344 million units. Since smartphones are taking the place of feature phones in many regions, feature phone shipments were down 14%.
Most emerging markets saw a notable increase in smartphone sales during the quarter, whereas most mature markets did not. |
