As promised, HTC has officially unveiled a new "premium" mid-range smartphone. Although we were expecting improved version of the One A9, the new model is actually a downgrade rather than an upgrade, but that will at least result in a lower price tag.

HTC One A9s keeps the same metal body and a 5-inch size, but the display is now a Super LCD one with a lower 720p resolution. There are also a lot of changes under the hood, as the One A9s is now powered by MediaTek Helio P10 with an octa-core A53 processor, 2 GB or 3 GB of RAM depending on the storage option (16 or 32 GB).

The rear camera sensor is the same, but the front is a regular a 5 MP 4:3 sensor with f/2.8 aperture and 1080p video recording. The only improvement is the slightly bigger 2,300 mAh battery. The One A9s will launch this October and its pricing has yet to be revealed.
