When Sony launched its last-gen Xperia Z lineup in the US, many were surprised that the phones were different than the e.g. European version. The biggest difference was the lack of the fingerprint scanner that was embedded in the home button, which was missing on the US models.

If you thought things will get better with the Xperia X lineup, then you will be disappointed to learn that nothing has changed. Both the Xperia XZ and Xperia X Compact smartphones are missing the fingerprint scanner, which is confirmed by Sony Mobile's US website. We still don't know the reason behind removing fingerprint scanners in the US, but if we have to guess it is probably because of the patents.

The good thing is that the hardware is still there, so you only have to flash an official ROM from a different country to enable the fingerprint scanner feature
