Kingston Technology's flash controller affiliate ASolid Technology has acquired as high as 70% of fellow controller company Innostor Technology for NT$60 million (US$1.9 million).
Investing in Innostor will help ASolid expand its controller offerings for USB products, as well as beef up its overall workforce, according to ASolid chairman Kunwang Liu. Liu has become chairman for Innostor after ASolid took over a controlling stake in the company.
ASolid has in recent years grown its business in the SD card field, and combining Innostor's USB controller expertise would further strengthen the overall competitiveness of ASolid's flash controller offerings, Liu indicated.
ASolid also develops eMMC device controllers, the product segment Innostor gave up previously. Innostor in 2013 sold its team for the design of eMMC controllers to SK Hynix as the company decided to put its focus on solutions for USB 3.0 flash devices and industrial memory products. |
