MediaTek has begun marketing its EDGE-enabled solution, the MT6236, targeting smartphone and feature-rich multimedia chipset markets in China and other emerging markets, according to the company.
The MT6236 is a GSM/GPRS/EDGE solution with high level of integration, said MediaTek, noting the solution offers key features such as support for 5-megpixel camera, mobile TV, HVGA display, integrated Bluetooth, full HTML browsing and full-finger touch functionality. The MT6236 platform is also pre-integrated with MediaTek's highly proven software solution thus considerably reducing the design cycle time, it said.
While smartphones have become hot models in the handset industry, feature phones will still account for 75% of global handset shipments in 2011, noted MediaTek citing data from ABI Research.
The launch of the MT6236 platform aims to meet end market's demand for differentiated and customized model, while also helping handset makers to shorten time to market for new products, said company president Hsieh Chin-chiang.
