Windows 7 was one of the best Microsoft operating systems, but unfortunately the OS is no longer available for sale. Back in October and September 2015, Microsoft stopped selling Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 to consumers, and now they stopped selling them to PC OEMs.
While Microsoft will support Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 for a while, PC makers can no longer purchase licenses. Both systems have no longer mainstream support, and security updates will be provided until January 14, 2020 for Windows 7, and January 10, 2023 for Windows 8.1. This move basically pushes manufacturers to make PCs with Windows 10.
Windows 10 is installed on over 400 million devices, but that couldn't be achieved without the year-long free upgrade offer to Windows 10 for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 PCs.
