Smartphones are clearly becoming more and more powerful. Some of them already pack more RAM than some computers, and their processors are slowly catching entry-level desktop processors. Huawei has recently released Kirin 960 and is reportedly finishing the Kirin 970 chipset.
It is obvious that Samsung and Qualcomm are the ones to beat. The third place is saved for other companies, and Huawei wants to be that company with the Kirin 970. The chipset is said to use an octa-core architecture with a quad-core Cortex-A73 and quad-core Cortex-A53, paired with Mali-G71 GPU.
While the Kirin 960 was built on TSMC 16nm process, the new SoC will use TSMC's 10nm process, which will greatly reduce the heat and improve performance. The chipset will also include Cat. 12 global LTE support. |
