LG's Innotek, a component company, is reportedly working with Apple on a camera module that's designed for 3D photography. The module doesn't have a set release date, but it might be included in the next iPhone, reports The Korean Economic Daily.

A source "close to the situation" says Apple is working to include "its 3D camera technology" in "LG Innotek's smartphone camera." Since LG has already developed technologies dealing with 3D photography, this effort "will likely bear fruit sometime within next year."

One of Innotek's dual-cam components is found on the iPhone 7 Plus, enabling the phone's Portrait Mode, which uses depth data to blur out the background.
