US carriers aren't jumping at the chance to offer the Huawei Mate 9, reports the Wall Street Journal. Carriers are concerned about the company's limited brand recognition in the country and the potential for security problems given Huawei is based in China.

In 2012, a congressional report said carriers should stay away from Huawei's networking equipment since the products could be used by China for spying purposes.

Some Huawei phones are already being sold through other means. They're available from retailers like Walmart and are sold on Amazon.

A US version of the Mate 9 hasn't been unveiled, but it will presumably be available from the same sources once it is released. Huawei would like to sell its phones through carriers as well due to the increased exposure.

The Mate 9's components would have to be adapted to work with CDMA networks if the phone is to support Verizon and Sprint.

Huawei might be able to sell its phones through AT&T. Working with any other carriers will be particularly challenging.
