Samsung Taiwan has announced the promotion of Randy Lee to serve as deputy general manager of its mobile communications business unit. Lee will be responsible for marketing of Samsung's mobile devices, including smartphones, tablets and wearable devices in the local market.

Lee actually takes up the work left by Gary Tsao, former general manager of Samsung Taiwan's mobile communications business unit, who resigned in April 2016 for personal reasons.

With the exit of the Galaxy Note 7, Lee will exert efforts to continue to promote the Galaxy S7 series products to maintain Samsung's share in the high-end segment, while fending off increasing competition from HTC, Asustek Computer and other China-based smartphone vendors in the mid-range to entry-level sector, according to industry sources.

Meanwhile, Samsung plans to launch its Gear S3 smartwatch in the local market in December. Apple's smartwatches and Xiaomi's Mi Bands currently enjoy high popularity in the local wearables market.
