MediaTek expects its revenues to grow 5-12% sequentially to NT$20.9-22.3 billion (US$727.82-776.57 million) in the second quarter of 2011, buoyed by seasonal demand and steady ASP, according to company president Hsieh Ching-chiang.
Second-quarter gross margin will range 45-47% compared to 46.2% in the first quarter, Hsieh added.
Shipments of MediaTek's chipset solutions, including MT6252, MT6235, MT6237 and WCDMA and TD-SCDMA for handsets as well as 3D TV and Blu-ray DVD chips, all will match or even beat expectations, and therefore stabilize sales and gross margin, Hsieh stated.
Shipments of the MT6252 have reached two million units so far and are expected to account for 30% of MediaTek's total handset solution shipments in the third quarter and further climb to 40% in the fourth, Hsieh indicated.
MediaTek's shipments of 2.75G Android-enabled handset chips have reached 100,000 units and the company will also begin to ship chips supporting 3.5G Android phones in the second quarter, said Hsieh, noting that MediaTek's target to ship 10 million smartphone chips in 2011 remains unchanged.
Additionally, shipments of WCDMA and TD-SCDMA solutions are currently running at one and three million units, respectively, a quarter, Hsieh revealed.
