Back in August 2016, MediaTek took off the wraps from its upcoming flagship chipset. Several months later, and there are still no phones with the Helio X30 chipset on the market. The first phone powered by the chipset is expected to be announced at Mobile World Congress 2017 later this month, and that should be the Vernee Apollo 2.
We have yet to hear about any Helio X30-powered smartphone from a top-tier company, reportedly due to lack of demand, MediaTek plans to cut up to 50% of orders placed with TSMC, a company that manufacturers chipsets. The company is still waiting to hear from Oppo and Vivo, while Meizu and LeEco are the only companies that are still committed to Helio X30. |
