Xiaomi Pinecone is the alleged name of its first in-house system-on-a-chip that was expected to arrive sometime this month. Thanks to the latest posted image by the company on a Weibo, the chipset will be announced by the end of the month, on February 28.

According to rumours, Xiaomi Pinecone will be available in two versions - the lower-end V670 model that will be made using 28nm process and pack Cortex-A53 cores in an octa-core architecture, and the higher-end V970 that uses 10nm process and has similar octa-core architecture, with four Cortex-A73 and four Cortex-A53 cores and higher clocks.

This move will see Xiaomi join Samsung, Apple, and Huawei in building its own chips and becoming significantly less reliant on Qualcomm.
