The Chinese company was planning to release more smartphones in 2017 with AMOLED panels, but due to an insufficient supply of the panels, only 8% of its total production of smartphones will have AMOLED panels. The report mentions that about 70% of global OLED panels will be used by Samsung and Apple, so not only Huawei will be affected, but other companies as well.

The good news is that other OLED panel supplier such as LG Display is expected to start shipping panels in 2018, while China-based BOE Technology will be a little late, with expected shipping time in 2020. Oppo and Vivo will secure 13% and 10% of the global production of OLED panels in 2017 thanks to signed guaranteed purchase agreements with Samsung Display.
