Although China's Xiaomi will one day offer its smartphones in the US and EU, that's not going to occur in the immediate future. The company doesn't plan on offering smartphones in either market this year or in 2018. It'll likely be 2019 before they're available.

Wang Xiang, Xiaomi's SVP, says the company is "in no hurry to serve the developed markets." It'll enter the US in "two year, if not sooner."

It's focused on expanding its presence and market share in developing regions. Part of its hesitation towards entering the West comes from the possibility of it facing patent infringement cases.
