Qualcomm is pretty much safe in the high-end segment, but there are more competitors in the mid-range segment and the company is now preparing a new chipset. According to a sent out press invites for an event in China, the Snapdragon 660 chipset will be unveiled next week, on May 9.
The Snapdragon 660 SoC is rumoured to feature an octa-core processor with custom Kryo 280 cores, just like the Snapdragon 835. The biggest difference between the two chipsets is the manufacturing process, where the Snapdragon 660 will be built on a 14nm process rather than 10nm.
The processor will be paired with an Adreno 512 GPU. Other important specs include support for UFS 2.1 storage and two LPDDR4 RAMs clocked at 1,866 MHz. The chipset will reportedly go into mass production in second quarter of 2017. |
