It is obvious that MediaTek didn't hit a home run with its deca-core processors. The Helio X20 was well-accepted, but still way below the company's expectations, while the upcoming Helio X30, which was expected to arrive a few months ago but was delayed due to 10nm issues, is already failing. Many companies have already ditched their support for Helio X30.
However, the more worrying situation is that MediaTek has a lot of Helio X20 chips in its inventory. The latest two chipsets from Qualcomm won't help MediaTek to sell the remaining Helio X20 chips, and the company will probably have to lower the price way below the current price of $20 per chip. |
