SSD maker Memoright is scheduled to start delivering embedded MMC (eMMC) solutions used in smartphones and tablet PCs later in June 2011, according to the company. The company aims to ship a total of 700,000-800,000 eMMC modules in 2011.
Additionally, the company has also unveiled new 2.5-inch SSD products with storage capacities of up to 800GB, built using in-house developed controller chips, according to company president Alex Kuo.
The new SSDs are designed specifically for some designated applications such as digital photographing, said Kuo, noting that Memoright's SSD products have been designated as storage devices for a number of Hollywood movies. The high capacity 800GB SSDs are even more suitable for the shooting industry, Kuo asserted.
Memoright has been eyeing the eMMC module market driven by smartphones and tablet PCs for a while, with some of its solutions already entering the supply chains of branded system vendors as well as China-based vendors, the company said.
Although a number of international NAND flash players including Samsung Electronics, SanDisk, Hynix Semiconductor, Micron Technology and Toshiba, have all ventured into the eMMC module segment, Memoright believes it will thrive in the market leveraging its capability for the development of SSD controller chips and manufacturing expertise in ruggedized SSDs.
