Transcend Information posted a revenue drop of 9.1% sequentially in May 2011, while fellow memory module companies Apacer Technology, Power Quotient International (PQI) and Phison Electronics saw larger declines of 14-20% on month.
Transcend registered NT$2.16 billion (US$75 million) in May revenues, the second lowest level so far this year. The company accumulated NT$12.11 billion in revenues from January through May, showing a 2.6% decrease compared to the same period of 2010.
Sales of NAND flash devices accounted for 62.4% of Transcend's May revenues, compared to 63.3% in the prior month. The proportion of DRAM-module sales grew slightly to 17.4% from 17.1% in April. The remainder came from the company's non-memory products such as digital photo frames and portable electronics devices.
Transcend noted that its NAND flash business was influenced by seasonal demand in May, with clients being cautious about placing orders. However, a seasonal pickup in demand is expected to emerge starting June, said the company, adding that revenues for the month are set to return to a sequential growth track.
Apacer and PQI reported on-month decreases in revenues for May 2011 of 20.7% and 14.1%, respectively. Phison, which makes memory controller ICs as well as NAND flash-based products, disclosed May revenues declined 17.5% sequentially to NT$2.25 billion.
Earlier in the week, Adata announced revenues slid 7.4% on month to NT$2.35 billion in May. Revenues for the first five months of 2011 totaled NT$12.88 billion, down 31.1% from a year ago. |
