Taiwan-based Winbond Electronics, which in recent years transformed itself from a PC DRAM manufacturer to a niche-market DRAM and NOR flash supplier, is planning to head towards a "fab-lite" strategy, Taiwan's state-run Central News Agency (CNA) cited company chairman Arthur Chiao as saying on June 22.
Currently, Winbond's 12-inch fab is capable of outputting 37,000 wafers a month. The monthly capacity will expand gradually to 50,000 wafers, but will then allow no further expansion, Chiao was quoted as saying.
