Alcatel-Lucent has chosen Micron's third-generation reduced latency DRAM (RLDRAM 3 memory) to drive its next generation network offerings, according to Micron. The RLDRAM 3 memory will also be used to support Alcatel-Lucent's 400Gb capable chipset, Micron indicated.
Micron said its RLDRAM 3 memory was developed to enable a faster, more efficient transfer of data over the network by doubling performance to 76.8Gbps and cutting latency to below 10ns. Both improvements help networking segment customers meet the rapidly evolving demands of broadband infrastructure, it added.
Micron noted that it is set to begin production of RLDRAM 3 memory during the second half of 2011. Engineering samples are already available.
In other news, Micron has announced net profits for the third quarter of fiscal 2011 plunged over 90% from a year earlier to US$75 million, with revenues down 7% to US$2.14 billion. Both results came below analysts' expectations.
Micron's DRAM revenues slid 7% sequentially in the quarter ended June 2 due to a decrease in sales, while NAND flash revenues decreased 5% on quarter due to an ASP fall, according to the company. Meanwhile, NOR flash revenues accounted for 17% of company sales in the quarter.
