Taiwan-based Powerchip Technology has announced revenues of NT$4.18 billion (US$145 million) for June, up 2.65% on month. Company spokesperson Eric Tang attributed the growth to increased sales in the foundry business as well as a ramp-up of 40nm node technology.
The foundry business is expected to account for over half of the production at Powerchip's existing 12-inch fabs by the end of 2011, according to Tang.
Once primarily known for its PC DRAM memory, Powerchip has enhanced its foundry business to include non-memory products such as LCD driver ICs, CMOS sensors and power management ICs.
Powerchip will be pursuing product diversification for sustainable growth, Tang noted. Having shifted its PC DRAM capacity to production for Elpida Memory on an OEM basis, Powerchip continues to produce own-brand mobile DRAM and NAND flash memory.
Powerchip's cumulative 2011 revenues through June amounted to NT$23.21 billion, down 45.4% from a year earlier.
