Contract prices for 2GB DDR3 modules rose 2-5% to average US$41 in the first half of January. 2GB DDR2 parts were also quoted at US$41 in the first part of the month, with prices having remained unchanged since November 2009.
Average contract prices for 1Gb DDR3 chips edged up by almost 6% to US$2.38 in the first half of January, from US$1.75 three months ago and US$1.31 in the first half of July 2009. The 1Gb DDR2 segment averaged US$2.38 in first-half January, compared to US$1.78 in first-half October 2009 and US$1.16 six months previous.
With the PC industry stepping up its adoption of DDR3, chip producers and module houses were quoted in previous reports as saying DDR3 chip prices would soon bounce back to above DDR2 prices at both the spot and contract markets.
Spot market quotes for 1300MHz 1Gb DDR3 chips climbed to US$3.04 during the morning trading session of January 13, from US$3.01 on January 8. Prices rallied over 20% from mid-December 2009. |
