Apple has added Macronix International as another supplier of NOR flash memory for the new MacBook Air in order to support strong sales of the recently-launched ultra-thin notebook series, according to industry sources.
Macronix reportedly is also the NOR flash supplier for Apple's Mac-series desktops.
In response, Macronix said it does not comment on customers and order status.
In addition, Macronix' ROM-chip shipments for Nintendo's 3DS are expected to increase significantly in the third quarter thanks to growing sales of the handheld device, the sources indicated. Nintendo's recently-released "Flare Red" version of its 3DS has boosted total sales of the handheld device, the sources added.
Buoyed by substantial growth in mask ROM shipments and new NOR flash orders, Macronix' revenues and earnings for the second half of 2011 are expected to perform relatively strong than those for the first half, the sources believe.
Macronix will hold a quarterly investors conference on July 27, to discuss its performance in the second quarter and guidance for the third.
