Overall price trends for DDR3 revised down further in the spot market this week (Aug 15-19) with some brokers dumping products.
As of the noon session of August 19, spot pricing for white-branded 2Gb DDR3 fell 9% to US$0.71 and branded 2Gb DDR3 dropped by 3% to US$0.98, the research firm said.
While first-tier PC vendors recently announced plans to slash their 2012 revenue forecasts due to weak demand, some brokers decided to dump their DDR3 to the spot market, which made the overall price trend worsen.
Meanwhile, spot pricing in the NAND flash market remained stable with some traders looking for Hynix 32Gb MLC chips in particular, which stimulated the overall price of 32Gb MLC. Since some traders are assuming that the pricing for 32Gb has reached bottom, they have decided to secure more product, noted the research firm.
Meanwhile, overall pricing has been buoyed by new Apple products to be launched later this year. Besides iPhone 5, which is reportedly to hit the market in September, the iPad 3 will also be released in the beginning of 2012.
As of August 19, the spot price for 32Gb MLC decreased 1% to US$3.46 while 64Gb MLC flattened at US$6.39, said the research firm.
