DDR3 spot prices rebounded last week (Aug 22- 26) while 32Gb NAND flash prices remained firm due to supply issues.
With local traders having little DDR3 in stock and DRAM suppliers limiting their shipments, distributors who need to fulfill their orders on time are sourcing chips in the spot market. This pushed up overall mainstream DDR3 prices on August 25-26, the research firm explained.
As of noon of August 26, spot price of white-branded 2Gb DDR3 jumped 4% to US$0.73 and branded 2Gb DDR3 remained flat at US$0.97.
In the NAND flash spot market, traders were looking for Hynix 32Gb MLC last week amid speculation that the Korea-based player had officially raised their quotes for shipments to channel distributors. Average 32Gb MLC spot price went up as a result, the research firm pointed out.
Also, market rumors claimed that Hynix might stop producing 32nm products soon. As some second-tier module houses are not yet ready to accept the Korea player's 26nm products, more demand is being directed to 32Gb MLC at the moment.
As of August 26, 32Gb MLC spot price increased 2% to US$3.58 while 64Gb MLC remained flat at US$6.4, said the research firm.
