IC design house Genesys Logic expects revenues generated from its USB 3.0 products to grow substantially in 2012. As a proportion of company revenues, sales of the segment will likely expand to 20-30% in 2012 from less than 10% in 2011.
Genesys Logic's USB 3.0 solutions include bridge controller chips, hub controllers and card reader controller ICs, with major clients including Kingston Technology and Seagate Technology.
Genesys Logic's deployment into the market for USB 3.0 chip solutions is bearing fruit, according to company COO Jinde Wang. The company's USB 3.0 product line once accounted for as high as 8-9% of company revenues in a single month, said Wang, adding that the sales proportion for all of 2011 averages about 5%.
Genesys Logic expects to see more sales generated from its USB 3.0 product segment in 2012, which will help lift the company's overall gross margin, Wang indicated.
Genesys Logic saw its gross margin drop to about 35% in the first and second quarters of 2011, down from more than 40% it used to have.
Genesys Logic also plans to expand the product line to include USB 3.0 solutions for portable hard drives, with sampling scheduled for the first quarter of 2012, Wang said. |
