The overall price trend of the DRAM spot market finally stabilized this week (November 14-18) due to the recent announcement of Elpida's production cut plan after a sluggish performance for at least one month.
As of noon of November 18, spot price of a branded 2Gb DDR3 fell 1% to US$0.73 and a white-branded 2Gb DDR3 decreased by 2% to US$0.65, noted the research firm.
In the contract market, overall shipments of desktop PCs in the fourth quarter of 2011 are expected to drop sharply by 20% compared to the firm's previous forecast. The major reason of this revision is due to the floods in Thailand, which is impacting the supply of hard disk drives (HDDs) and will also increase the production cost of PC vendors.
Nothing much changed in the NAND flash spot market this week with overall demand remaining slow and major transactions focusing on 16/32 Gb MLC products, said the research firm.
