After experiencing a sharp and sudden rise the previous week, average prices for mainstream DRAM in the spot market dropped slightly last week (December 19-23) with demand turning weak again. Meanwhile, the NAND flash spot market remained weak.
Despite the weak demand, some module house players suggested that DRAM spot price has bottomed out, and the overall spot price trend will continue picking up.
As of the noon session of December 23, spot price of a branded 2G DDR3 dipped 2% to US$0.86 and a white brand 2G DDR3 decreased 3% to US$0.77, noted the research firm.
Nothing much changed in the NAND flash spot market last week with the average price remaining flat. As of noon of December 19, spot prices of a 32Gb MLC and a 64MLC were pegged at US$3.23 and US$5.81, respectively.
The contract price of NAND flash in the second half of December is expected to remain flat amid strong sales of e-books and the solid state disks (SSD). The NAND flash market is coming close to a state of balance at the moment, indicated the research firm.
