Taiwan-based CMOS IC design house Genesys Logic on December 27 announced the offering of GL3620, the world's first USB 3.0 isochronous webcam controller IC, with volume production to begin in the second quarter of 2012.
GL3620 can deliver uncompressed 1,080p streaming video at 30 frames per second based on USB 3.0 isochronous transfer mode, Genesys indicated. GL3620 complies with USB-IF Compliance Workshop and has passed USB 3.0 CV test suit and can work well with major USB 3.0 Host controller ICs, Genesys noted. The controller IC has built-in HISP (hardware image signal processing) which transforms RGB RAW data from CMOS sensors to interpolated YUV format and can perform bad pixel correction, image scaling, gamma correction and image quality enhancement, Genesys indicated. In addition, GL3620 has a motion JPEG encoder to make it backward compatible with USB 2.0 connection.
Genesys will showcase GL3620 as well as 4-port USB 3.0 Hub controller IC GL3520, USB 3.0 flash card reader controller IC GL3220 and USB 3.0 external hard disk drive SATA bridge controller IC GL3321 at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show to take place in Las Vegas during January 10-13, Genesys indicated
Genesys aims to hike the proportion of its total revenues for USB 3.0 series product lines from 5% in 2011 to 20-30% in 2012. |
