DRAM maker Nanya Technology has seen sales of products for non-PC applications account for 50% of company revenues. The proportion is expected to further expand in 2012.
Nanya revealed that the ratio of PC DRAM to company capacity has slipped to 20-30%. The company has enhanced its product portfolio for consumer electronics, mobile device and server applications.
Nanya indicated it now offers DDR3 products ranging from 1Gb to 4Gb for TVs with advanced features such as 3D ultra high definition models. The company has also developed LPDDR chips for LTE mobile phones with mass production slated for the first quarter.
Nanya added it has cut into the supply chain of LTE chipmakers with its LPDDR chips, with sales generated from the orders to drive company growth in the second and third quarters.
In addition, Nanya expects to start sampling 4Gb LPDDR2 mobile DRAM chips built using 30nm process technology in the first quarter. The chip package is small in order to fit the specifications of new lightweight and portable mobile devices.
Nanya also has rolled out samples of its 1.35V 4Gb DDR3 4Gb products, which are certified by Intel for its Ivy Bridge processors. Nanya said it expects to supply brand-name notebook firms with the chips targeted at ultrabooks.
In other news, Inotera Memories will remain focused on manufacturing DRAM products for Nanya and Micron Technology. Inotera said it is set to start volume production of 30nm, 4Gb DDR3 chips in the first quarter, and expects to convert more than 30% of its total wafer start capacity to 30nm by mid-2012. |
