Alcor Micro is scheduled to launch its first USB 3.0 flash drive controller in June, and will expand its offering to include chips for eMMC devices in the second half of 2012, according to the company.
Alcor Micro has its own PHY IP technology to develop USB 3.0 flash drive controllers, according to company chairman Dennis Chang. The launch will come at just the right time as demand is set to expand, said Chang, adding that USB 3.0 flash drive controllers are certainly not 'me-too' products.
Alcor Micro is also eyeing the market for eMMC, and plans to introduce controllers for embedded memory in the second half of 2012, Chang indicated. Products will be initially targeted at China's white-box customers, Chang said.
Chang added that Alcor Micro will expand its eMMC controller portfolio with chips built using 55nm process technology.
Alcor Micro posted revenues of NT$752 million (US$26.5 million) for the first quarter of 2012, down about 8% sequentially.
Market watchers have estimated that revenues at Alcor Micro for all of 2012 will increase about 20%. The ratio of sales between the first and second half of the year is forecast to be 4:6, according to the watchers.
