Memory module makers Adata Technology and Transcend Information both have reported healthy earnings for the first quarter of 2012 despite irregular supply of hard disc drives, according to data released by the companies.
Adata saw its net profits gain 6.7% on quarter and 200% on year to NT$289 million (US$9.83 million) in the first quarter although revenues were down 13.2% on quarter to NT$7.07 billion. Net EPS for the quarter stood at NT$1.37.
During the same quarter, Transcend saw revenues slip 15.7% on quarter to NT$5.8 billion and net profits slide 14.2% to NT$616 million. First-quarter EPS was NT$1.43.
Transcend is likely to see its revenues and profits improve in the second quarter when the supply of HDDs is expected to become regular and prices of NAND flash chips are stabilized, according to industry sources.
Adata is more conservative about the outlook for the second quarter, citing continued debt crisis in Europe, political upheaval in the Middle East and off-season effects. |
