IC design house Genesys Logic has seen sales generated from its USB 3.0 products including bridge controller chips, hub controllers and card reader controller ICs expand to account for more than 10% of company revenues, according to the company.
However, Genesys Logic commented that the penetration rate for USB drives and other devices with USB 3.0 as a whole has been a disappointment. But shipments of USB 3.0 products should finally take off in the second half of 2012, Genesys Logic said.
Genesys Logic will focus on growing shipments of its USB 3.0 hub controllers and products for card readers, which yield higher gross margins, during second-half 2012, the company noted.
Genesys Logic reported revenues of NT$129 million (US$4.4 million) for April 2012, up 22.5% on month and 11.7% on year. The firm credited the growth to short lead time orders from system manufacturers.
Genesys Logic expects its total sales for the second quarter to outperform the prior quarter's levels. And with monthly revenues approaching the company break-even level of NT$130 million to NT$140 million, Genesys Logic stands a good chance of returning to profitability in the third quarter of 2012. |
