Intel, seeing cloud computing demand continuing to heat up, is accelerating its solid state drive (SSD) development targeting datacenter applications, and has also developed High Endurance Technology (HET) to extend the life of SSDs in order to satisfy datacenter needs, according to sources from end-side players.
The sources even expect datacenters to become the new battlefield for SSD players after the ultrabook market.
Intel internally believes that although SSDs currently only have a less than 4% adoption rate in datacenters worldwide, as wear rates as well as costs will gradually improve, adoption of SSDs is expected to increase and has great potential to enjoy strong growth in the future, the sources noted. |
