NOR flash memory suppliers Macronix International and Winbond Electronics have reported mixed revenue results for August 2012.
Macronix announced August revenues of NT$2.41 billion (US$81.3 million), up 4.1% on month. The figure showed a 9.3% increase compared to the NT$2.21 billion posted during the same period of 2011.
Macronix' revenues for the first eight months of 2012 totaled NT$15.6 billion, down 8.7% from a year ago, however.
Accumulated net sales for January to August 2012 was NT$15.613 billion, a decrease of 8.7% compared to the same period of NT$17.099 billion in 2011.
In addition to NOR flash, Macronix also manufactures mask ROM chips for portable gaming consoles. Shipments of Macronix' ROM products have climbed in the third quarter as its major client Nintendo steps up its pace of orders, according to market observers.
Revenues at Winbond, which manufactures NOR flash and niche-market DRAM memory, slipped 6.1% on month and 7.9% on year to NT$2.16 billion in August 2012. Cumulative revenues from January to August totaled NT$17.06 billion, representing a 11.2% decrease as compared to the same period of 2011.
