MediaTek has announced that it is extending its strategic partnership with Indonesia-based mobile operator Telkomsel and handset brand IMO to bring a multimedia, dual core platform developed specifically for sub-US$200 smartphones to users across Indonesia.
"As smartphones continue to grow in the Indonesian mobile phone market, the new MediaTek chipset is well suited to help us better address local demand by empowering affordable phones with advanced turnkey solutions," Adhi Putranto, head of Core Product Marketing Division, Telkomse, was quoted as saying in a MediaTek's press release.
The MediaTek dual-core MT6577 platform is currently being incorporated into a number of IMO's devices, such as its S88 Discovery smartphone and the ORION tablet. The first smartphone models based on this new chipset are commercially available in Indonesia, with more than 10 models to be offered in the next few months, MediaTek revealed. |
