Fabless IC firm MediaTek has announced consolidated revenues of NT$10.5 billion (US$359.9 million) for October 2012, up 39% from a year ago but down about 5% sequentially.
MediaTek's consolidated sales for the first 10 months of 2012 increased 15.7% from a year earlier to NT$83 billion.
MediaTek expects its fourth-quarter consolidated sales to be in the range of NT$28.9 billion to NT$30.9 billion, compared to the NT$29.47 billion reported for the third quarter. The sales for third-quarter 2012 showed growth of 25.7% sequentially and 26.1% on year, driven by growing shipments to China's smartphone market.
MediaTek president Hsieh Ching-chiang said at a recent investors conference that the company would ship more than 40 million smartphone chips in the fourth quarter of 2012, up from 35-40 million in the third quarter.
