Intel originally expected its StudyBook tablet shipments to reach 3-4 million units in the period from January 2013 to June 2014; however, the company has reduced the forecast volume to 1.6-2 million units, according to sources from the upstream supply chain. Intel has declined to comment on the shipments.
Intel unveiled its StudyBook tablets in April with two sizes, 7-inch and 10-inch. The devices are designed specifically for the education market, and support both Windows and Android operating systems.
Intel was originally confident about landing StudyBook orders from the governments in China and India, but since the global economy remains in a weak state, order volumes have not been as strong as expected.
Although Intel has an advantage in hardware and software integration, high prices have pushed buyers away from placing large orders.
The tablets will be manufactured by Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS). |
