Transcend Information Inc recently introduced the ESD200, its latest portable solid state drive (SSD) featuring the SuperSpeed USB 3.0 interface. Transcend claims that the compact, easy-to-carry ESD200 delivers real-world transfer rates of up to 260MB/s thereby offering improved mobile storage performance for consumers demanding high-speed data transfer.
Transcend claims that when connected to a USB 3.0 port, the ESD200 boasts incredible transfer speeds of up to 260MB/s read and 225MB/s write, which is fast enough to transfer a full 4.7GB DVD movie in 15 seconds. Also backwards compatible with USB 2.0, the ESD200 ensures that users will be able to move files between computers that do not support SuperSpeed USB 3.0.
New portable SSD
As there are no moving parts, Transcend's flash-equipped ESD200 SSD runs cool and silent, and can withstand excessive shock or vibration. Transcend states “Perfect for everyday portability, this credit card sized SSD includes a handy travel pouch to protect the drive’s sleek outer case against scratches during transport.”
The ESD200 includes a free download of the exclusive Transcend Elite data management tool that helps increase productivity. With this software, users can perform incremental backups, secure confidential information with 256-bit AES Encryption, and much more. The ESD200 features a unique One Touch auto-backup button that enables users to instantly backup and synchronise data with their notebook or desktop PC, ensuring that their important files are safely stored in a secondary backup location.
Transcend’s new ESD200 Solid State Drive is now available for a suggested price of US$239 (approximately Rs 13,162) for the 128GB model and US $429 (approximately Rs 23,626) for the 256GB model. All models are backed by a three-year warranty.
Last year, in October, Transcend had announced a new addition to its SSD family, the SSD18C3 portable solid state drive. The portable SSD comes with USB 3.0. The SSD18C3 is based on NAND flash memory, and includes a new device driver which, once installed, switches the SSD into Turbo mode, providing synthetic data transfer speeds up to 260MB/s when connected to a USB 3.0 port. This means a DVD movie will take around fifteen seconds to process. The SSD is also compatible with USB 2.0. Due to the absence of moving parts, the SSD18C3 can withstand shock or vibration better than HDDs. The SSD is housed in a silicone outer shell and is about as thick as a deck of poker playing cards.
The device has a one touch auto-backup button, which, preloaded with the Backup Manager software, allows users to backup and synchronise their data. Users can also download Transcend’s JetFlash Elite data management tools to help them get automatic website authentication, or for checking non web-based email accounts remotely by plugging the SSD into any computer with Internet access.
Transcend’s new SSD18C3 solid state drive is available for a price of Rs 10,095 for the 64GB model and Rs 20,192 for the 128GB model. |
