Samsung Electronics Taiwan expects its channel retail network to expand significantly in 2013 and the company will also start entering Taiwan's enterprise PC and government procurement markets, according to Samsung Taiwan's IT business director Tony Chou.
Samsung recently announced in Taiwan its latest product series, ATIV, which includes a Windows 8-based smart PC and a smartphone. The ATIV smart PC features an 11.6-inch display, an Intel Atom processor, and a detachable design
As for touchscreen-based products, Samsung will maintain its focus on tablet and smart PC products, and the company currently has no plans to adopt touch panels in its Series 5, 7 and 9 notebooks.
Sources from the upstream supply chain also pointed out that Samsung is mainly pushing its notebooks to mid-range and high-end segments with prices mostly above US$1,000, and since thin-and-light designs are the focus of the company's products, ultrabooks are expected to account for more than 50% of its notebook shipments in both 2012 and 2013.
