Micron says it is shipping 'high volume' 1Gbit phase change memory to Nokia.
Micron says it has a 1Gbit multi-chip package PCM product made on a 45nm process without saying how many chips it has inside it. And it says it has a multi-chip package containing a 512Mbit PCM IC and a 512Mbit low power DDR2 DRAM.
Micron now says it is "the first company in the world to ship PCM solutions in volume."
Micron got into phase change with the acquisition of Numonyx two years ago and by absorbing the phase change technology developed by Unity Semiconductor.
Numonyx developed a 128Mbit PCM chip and Unity had a 64Mbit device. It seems that Micron have now upped that to 512Mbit.
The 40 year-old memory technology has never quite achieved its potential. |
