The notebook manufacturing joint venture of Compal Electronics and Lenovo in Hefei, China has begun commercial runs with its production capacity expected to reach one million units a month in the first quarter of 2013, according to a Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) report.
Lenovo and Compal will invest US$100 million in the joint venture initially, with Lenovo taking 51% a stake and Compal the remaining 49%. The joint venture will call for an additional investment of US$200 million when the second-phase expansion project takes place, the paper revealed.
