Consumer electronics manufacturer Lenovo (0992.HK) intends take over manufacturing of all the company's laptop, desktop, and all-in-one computers within the next three to five years.
At present, Lenovo has concentrated much of its laptop and all-in-one manufacturing in the company's Hefei JV factory with Taiwanese consumer electronics manufacturer Compal Electronics.
According to an industry insider, Lenovo will look to move production of one or two of its business-use ThinkPad products to Lenovo's Hefei factory in the near future. None of the company’s IdeaPad products are expected to be considered as options for this move.
Lenovo currently plans to ship 12-15 million laptop and desktop computers and 3 million all-in-one computers for 2013, 40 percent of which will be manufactured in-house.
Lenovo has yet to comment on the matter. |
